When Is It Worth Hiring An Insulation Company?

Most people are capable of unrolling a batt of insulation across their attic floor. If you've ever done this yourself, you might think the idea of hiring someone to install your insulation is a bit silly. But there are definitely situations in which hiring an insulation company is warranted. If you're in any of the situations below, hiring an insulation professional is a smart choice.

1. You have old, moldy insulation to remove.

If you had a roof leak or a plumbing leak that got your insulation wet, you will want to replace that insulation. Damp insulation gets moldy very quickly, and there's really no way to kill mold in insulation. You don't want to leave moldy insulation in an attic because the mold spores can circulate throughout the home, causing allergic reactions and respiratory distress.

Removing moldy insulation from an attic is not easy, and it requires proper safety gear. Professionals have the right attire, respirators, and protective gear to protect themselves when removing moldy insulation from your attic. Once they make sure all the old insulation is out of the way, they can put new insulation in its place.

2. You want spray foam insulation.

Fiberglass insulation is the most common type used in most homes. However, spray foam insulation is becoming more common. This type of insulation starts off as two liquids, which combine to form a dense foam. Spray foam insulation is waterproof, adds structural integrity to a building, and does a more efficient job of insulating a space than fiberglass. However, it needs to be applied by a professional. Not only can working with spray foam be unsafe for the inexperienced, but mistakes made during the application process can make the insulation less effective. So, call a pro if you want spray foam.

3. You need insulation put into some small or hard-to-access spaces.

Maybe you have a really short attic crawlspace that you can't fit your body into. Or, maybe you really want to insulate within your walls. These hard-to-access spaces are really hard to insulate on your own. However, an insulation company will have equipment to insert blown-in insulation in these areas. They can insert the insulation through a hole as small as a quarter, if needed.

Insulation companies really do have their place. If you have moldy insulation, want spray foam insulation, or are trying to insulate a hard-to-access space, call an insulation contractor near you. An insulation company can provide further information.
